Description
VTG Huichol Hand Beaded Wooden Hinged Cigar Box Collectible Mexican Folk Art 80sThis rare Huichol beaded box is from the 80s, and is in very good condition for its age. The construction of the beaded box is solid. The craftsmanship is not seen in similar products today, this was not mass produced, but a time consuming hand crafted box. This is not only a piece of vintage art, but an exciting look into an ancient culture's art style.
The beads were applied with such precision and attention to detail. Smooth, solid and consistent to the touch, well built and held together in a way that this piece is delicate, but not too delicate. Hinges work great, box built solid, and the beads are attached firmly. Flawlessly opens and closes, wood work all aligned and sturdy, beads on securely. It is a decorative piece, but can function to hold items. I believe it's for cigars. Although no cigars have been stored, no smell.
The style of the beadwork is reminiscent of sacred geometry with elements inspired by nature i.e sun, lizards, snake, etc. this is a must own piece of art that you must see to believe. The Huichol worshiped the sun and nature, and used natural methods to see into a world beyond ours. This box is unlike anything else, a chance for you to own a rare piece of a crafted art lost to time.
There is a small amount of damage. There are smudges on the suns. The back left corner has a tiny ding and missing beads (see last pic) there may be beads missing here and there (see pics), but not too noticable. There is a small amount of water damage inside the box.
I will use bubble wrap and packing peanuts to make sure this fine piece of Huichol art arrives safely to you. I will ship within 24 hours.
