    Description

    The Gathering Wild Maenad Nymph holding a baby panther wall hanging plate. In Ancient Greece maenads were the female followers of Dionysus (the god of the grape-harvest, winemaking, orchards and fruit, vegetation, fertility, insanity, ritual madness, religious ecstasy, festivity, and theatre in ancient Greek religion and myth). They prepared his wine, and used it to access a state of frenzied, divine madness and ecstasy. This design is attributed to the Brygos painter.
