Description
Kellogg Switchboard Supply / Gray Pay Station Wall Telephone. This is a combination of the original phone made by Kellogg, a pay station made by Gray, and an internal rotary phone made by AEC. Great conversation piece, many people have commented on it over the years.Original phone manufactured by Kellogg Switchboard & Supply Company, Chicago, either late 1800's or early 1900's.
Attached to it is a Gray Telephone Pay Station, Pat 1897. Plate labeled as 'L45199'. No key included, but there are spare keys available here on eBay.
This phone was modified with an internal rotary Automatic Electric Company phone sometime in the 60/70's. This was done by my dad; he enjoyed fiddling with things like this and wanted to actually be able to display and use the phone at the time. Original wiring chart by Kellogg, and second wiring chart by AEC are both included.
Mouthpiece is labeled 'Central Mutual Telephone Co', which we assume was probably the local phone company whererever it was originally installed.
In total this piece weighs 34 lbs and requires strong wall support if hung. Currently only available for local pickup due to the weight, but if you really need it to be shipped then please contact me and I can update the listing. (It will be around 36 lbs with box and packing material.)
Dimensions are roughly 22 x 14 x 10". Condition is as photos show. I don't have the electrical knowledge to know how well it may function, but I've tried to take many pictures of the internal wiring and components. The earpiece does have a small piece broken around the cover that screws on, shown in last pic. Crossthreading the cover will keep it held on tight if you so choose.
