Description
Huichol Beaded Wood Prayer Box Flower Handmade Hand Carved Mexican Folk ArtHuichol Mexican Indian folk art is truly unique and all handmade by the indigenous Huichol people of the Sierra Madre mountains in Jalisco, Mexico.
This cute little beaded prayer box is hand carved wood from the copal tree. The artist assembled to box, sanded it to a smooth finish and cut a notch for a metal hinge. Before beading, a small nail was attached to the top and serves as a closure for the top and bottom.
Using the traditional Huichol techniques of pressing Campeche wax onto this prayer box and adding
Chaquira glass beads
, one-by-one, the beaded symbols depict the offering message to the Huichol Gods. Some of the symbols include a large freshly bloomed graduated green
color
Peyote flower with gray pearl beads in the center, two salamanders for the God of rain and tiny budded Peyote flowers around the bottom edge.
A prayer can be written and put into the box for blessings or it can hold rings, small jewelry or special trinkets. Great idea for a special gift.
