Huichol Beaded Prayer Bowl Peyote Scorpian Sea Shell Handmade Mexican Folk ArtBeautiful, multi-colored glass beaded, abalone shell
Shaman prayer bowl. Prayer bowls are placed in shrines and sacred sites and used by the Shaman during their ceremonies. In the Huichol Indian culture, the Shaman are spiritual leaders who communicate with the gods, lead ceremonies, recite divine passages, heal the sick and are thought
to have supernatural powers to help the Huichol people.
Huichol Mexican Indian folk art is truly unique and all handmade by the indigenous Indian people of the Sierra Madre mountains in Mexico.
Using the traditional Huichol techniques of pressing Campeche wax onto the inside of this abalone shell and adding glass beads, one-by-one, this prayer bowl, or Tazon de Oracion, depicts the offering message. The gorgeous smooth resin coated exterior allows the fabulous colors to shine on the outside of the bowl.
Using varying colors of red, orange, yellow, blue and green colored Chaquira glass beads the symbols are added as offerings to the Huichol Gods.
Huichol prayer bowls are thought to bring power and strength to those who hold it.
The focus of this prayer bowl is the Peyote flower. Blue rain colored beads are nourishing the black and white Peyote flower. We love how the artist also used flowers for each petal.
Six yellow scorpions protect the flower in the Huichol fire colors.
A large stalk of green corn has yellow, orange and red prayer arrows in it's leaves and is requesting gratitude from the Gods and prayers for successful crops.
Two bright suns give light to the world and nourish the corn and 21 yellow mini Peyote flowers bless this bowl.
The colors used on this abalone sea shell prayer bowl are yellow, a special root used for face painting during ceremonies, green for the earth, heavens, growth, grandfather and healing the heart; blue for rain and successful crops and red/orange is the fire and sacred grounds for the ceremony.
