Huichol Mexican Indian folk art is truly unique and all handmade by the indigenous Huichol Indian people of the Sierra Madre mountains in Jalisco, Mexico.
100% authentic Huichol art.  Absolutely gorgeous, elegant black pearl and white pearl color theme glass beaded, Day of the Dead, Catrina Mermaid clay sculpture figurine.  In earlier days of the Aztecs, the mermaid was the symbol for the pure and precious goddess of the water to irrigate the fields.
Using the traditional Huichol techniques of pressing Campeche wax onto this mermaid sculpture and adding glass beads, one-by-one, this Day of the Dead Catrina mermaid depicts the offering message to the Huichol Gods.
Dressed in a strapless mermaid style gown with long flowing scarf around her neck and head, a white water lily in her hand and arms sculpted as if dancing in the ocean, this Catrina portrays a traditional yet elegant pose.
Her dress has a large corn symbol for successful crops and a creator of new crops, Mother of the Corn, symbol
with rain symbols nourishing the soil.  Also, the deer head symbol on her left side allows messages to the Gods and the Peyote symbol for life and success is on her tail.
Her head is detachable and can slightly move from side to side for different poses.  We love her metallic pink painted choker style necklace and her Day of the Dead facial features.
