    Description

Huichol Beaded CATRINA Day of the Dead Folklorico Dancer Mexican Folk Art Signed
Huichol Mexican Indian folk art is truly unique and all handmade by the indigenous Huichol Indian people of the Sierra Madre mountains in Jalisco, Mexico.
100% authentic Huichol art.  Festive, expressive and colorful, this Folklorico dancer is all handmade and signed by the Huichol artist, Flor Carrillo, Tutuu.
The sculpture is weighty and made of a combination of resin and fishbone.  The exposed, non-beaded areas are hand painted with dark blue to create an antiqued Day-of-the-Dead look to the sculpture.
Using the traditional Huichol techniques of pressing Campeche wax onto this Folklorico dancer sculpture and adding glass beads, one-by-one, this Day of the Dead Catrina depicts the offering message to the Huichol Gods.  She is dressed in a colorful Mexican dancing dress with ruffles around her bodice and her arms are holding the edges of the skirt as if her dress was swirling with the music for the Jarabe Tapatio or Mexican hat dance.
On her skirt is several large beaded orange, red and yellow Peyote flowers on a yellow and green background.  Her waist is trimmed with medium green prayer arrows outlined with forest green color beads and clear red metallic beads decorate her waist. The typical ribbons on a folklorico dress are created using clear metallic red and black pearl color beads.  A lovely ruffled top completes her outfit with luxurious black pearl and black beads that are highlighted with the Huichol fire colored beads (red, orange and yellow).  Her jet black hair bun is adorned with black pearl accent beads and she has two sparkly clear metallic red and orange flowers near her ears.
This beautiful sculpture is signed by the artist, Flor Carrillo, Tuutu and a COA (certificate of authenticity) signed by the artist, is included.
