This item for sale is 1 Pennsylvania “FLAGSHIP NIAGARA” optional vanity “ALOHA" license plate issued by the PennDOT/ Pennsylvania DMV and produced by Flex-o-lite of St Louis, Mo.
The State of Pennsylvania DMV adapted the famous “Flagship Niagara” painting by famous 19th century artist Julian Oliver Davidson depicting the Battle of Lake Erie as a license plate in late 1995.
This optional license plate was a huge success with Pennsylvania motorist despite the extra .00 optional license plate fee charged by the PA DMV. In just about 12 months, 30,000 “FLAGSHIP NIAGARA” tags were sold until early 1997.
Unfortunately, that painting is made of mostly fair colors on a light brown background painting and PennDOT chose to stick WHITE COLORED letters and numbers making the license plate completely unreadable by law enforcement officials.
Very few of those prototypes were made using a stamped raised black lettering and this vanity style was never issued to any Pennsylvania motorist. However, given the very small number of vanity license plates produced with black lettering, those are valued as highly collectibles.
Grading is subjective so please look at all pictures to judge for yourself condition of item before bidding.
