Description
Huichol Mexican Indian folk art is truly unique and all handmade by the indigenous people of the Sierra Madre mountains in Jalisco, Mexico. This Catrina is 100% authentic Huichol. This Mexican clay Day of the Dead figurine is handmade, hand painted and hand beaded by the artist Flor Carrillo De La Cruz. The clay is painted black and accented with white for an aged appearance.
Gorgeous, this Day of the Dead Catrina is dressed in an off-the-shoulder long sleeve gown. She is holding the metallic gold and blue pearl sides of her gown as if dancing in the Jarabe Tapatio dance. The bodice of her gown is garnished with a blue Peyote flower that is being nourished by the blue beaded rain and a big yellow sun. Father Sun is ablaze on the front with brilliant colors of red fire, orange for the sacred land and yellow. The sun's face is outlined with metallic silver glass beads and he is the power that brings light to the world. Beside Father Sun, a snake with metallic gold and rainbow color beads, instructs the leaders to be healers and it protects the corn with two pink pearl scorpions.
In the back, a large yellow Messenger deer receives instructions from the Gods, a salamander requests rain to nourish the crops and a metallic gold scorpion with God's Eye, protector of the children, guards 3 Peyote flowers. Her metallic gold trimmed Peyote sleeves really add sparkle.
Her hat, typical of the aristocrats, is accented with blue beads for rain and it has 3D sculpted plume feathers and flowers. Sparkly metallic red beads accent three 3D Peyote flowers and are also on the outline of a bright scorpion protecting the Peyote. Under the brim is 7 red Peyote flowers that accent her metallic green clay button earrings.
Her head is detachable and can turn from side to side for more poses. Absolutely lovely!
