Super Nice Monarch Brand Tiger Oak Crank Wall Telephone! Perfect display pop for any antiqued room, kitchen or other. The rich toned tiger oak wood & shiny bells make this one jump off the wall. We love these old Monarch phones & sold one like this a few years back for 5.
Well, almost like it
. Someone installed a vintage radio system in this old phone in the bottom battery cabinet. We only briefly tested the radio, but it operated when plugged in and we found a scratchy station or two, but then just left it alone. The radio may need a few adjustments to work correctly, but someone went to great efforts to convert it at some point. That said, it looks like this phone has almost all (75-85%) of its original internal parts. It has a 5 Bar Magneto, most of the knobs, gears and wiring from what we can tell. The phone's crank does not turn easily and so the bells do not operate (plus the bell ringing transistor was replaced with a radio speaker as you can see in photos). Not sure if a little oil or other may fix the crank, but it would need a new bell clapper transmitter installed for bells to work when cranked. The case also still has original warranty tag inside as shown in pictures.
The cabinet is marked Pat Date April 4, 1899. It has the nice original lightning arrester knobs on top as well and Monarch plates on mouth piece and cabinet, The serial number on front is L245539. Monarch Manufacturing Company, Chicago was established in 1901, but were bought out by American Electric in 1925.
Due to the item's conversion and modifications, we are selling as a display value item that is mostly original, but missing features as noted. We are selling this for 0 less than our last one, although it still has the same display quality, just not 100% complete as noted. Please look over all pictures taken for your consideration and use zoom feature if needed. You will notice the radio volume knob and a radio dial on one side, and some air holes were drilled in the back of cabinet, we assumed to cool radio transmitter perhaps. The backlite ear piece is complete, but has some wear and a seam crack on the shaft part, but it still looks good with phone as display.
