Description
If purchasing with us please note that we ship by FedEx and since they do not deliver to PO Boxes a street address in eBay is necessary for a successful sale and shipment. Thank you! This item is an empty wooden box formerly used as a "ringer box" for an antique telephone. This sale includes the box along with its door. bells and ringer. There are no mounting holes in the backboard. We hooked the ringer up to the test set magneto and were able to ring the bells. The ringer tests OK. Overall, the wood is in fair condition, and the finish is poor.
Note these issues:
· backboard: 1 split at the top edge of the backboard.
· box: no magneto
· box top panel: 1 hole
· box right panel: See the section of the panel that has been "cut out." This "cut out" removed a portion of the slot in the sidewall that is intended to secure the door. There are 2 screw holes in this same area.
· box left panel: 1 hole intended for the crank
· box bottom panel: 2 holes intended for the magneto mount
· inside surface of door: 4 divots, 1 in each corner of the door
· inside surface of door: 2 holes have been patched using a sawdust and glue patching material. There are also 2 pin holes nearby.
· inside surface of door: 5 additional "divots" in the lower half of the door.
Exterior: The outside of the box is unmarked.
Door closure: The door is fitted with a key closure mechanism. When the mechanism is rotated, a metal "tongue" is supposed to rotate into a slot in the wooden side wall of the box to secure the door. The lock mechanism does rotate smoothly, and the slot in the wooden sidewall has been "cut in half." The portion of the slot pthat remains is in good condition. The "tongue" almost catches in the slot. We were able to rotate the closure mechanism using an old key that we had on hand, however, AN OLD KEY DID NOT COME WITH THIS PHONE. *** Please be advised that an old key is NOT included in this sale ***.
Interior: Inside the box, there is no magneto. While hooking the ringer up to the test set magneto, we discovered that the wire from the top hinge to the ringer was broken off. There was a "nub" of wire coming from the ringer coil that we were able to connect to the magneto for the test. In this way, we were able to ring the bells. The ringer tests OK and is unmarked.
